Automotive

The automotive supplier Brose develops and manufactures mechatronic components and systems for vehicle doors and seats in 19 countries. One in four of all vehicles manufactured worldwide are currently fitted with at least one Brose product. One of the things this automotive supplier needs in order to ensure the legal compliance of its development, manufacturing, and marketing work is a comprehensive overview of the constituent materials that can currently be used. However, up till the beginning of 2006, the company did not have a suitable database that it could analyze on a company-wide basis. To resolve this issue, Brose worked with TechniData to construct a central constituent material data management system and integrate the supporting IT solution into its company-wide SAP system. Thanks to this new transparency, Brose now has a system that enables it to document the compliance of newly developed components for its customers.

Company

The Brose Group
Brose is a partner to the international automotive industry and supplies its products to more than 40 brands of vehicle and leading seat manufacturers. A workforce of approximately 9,100 develops and manufactures components and systems for automobile doors and seats at almost 40 sites in 19 countries across the world. One in four of all vehicles manufactured worldwide are currently fitted with at least one Brose product. In fiscal year 2006 the group reported sales of some € 2.3 billion. Brose is currently the seventh largest family-owned company among the top 100 international automotive suppliers.

Benefit

  • The process based on TechniData CfP, in which all departments are obliged to participate, limits the number of constituent materials Brose is using to a minimum. In the same way, they are also able to cut the administrative outlay involved in handling constituent materials.

  • Now that Brose has partially automated the workflow, they can use the same capacities as before to handle the steadily rising number of IMDS jobs, even despite growing compliance requirements.

  • Thanks to the integrated solution, Brose can also be more flexible in how it handles data from its suppliers. As Brose now holds all data centrally, the company can quickly incorporate specific amendments itself.

  • The constituent material data management solution also unlocks added value in product development. Detailed information is stored on the markets where each constituent material can and cannot be procured.

  • The additional transparency this provides allows Brose to give its customers detailed answers to their compliance queries.
