C4you success story continues

October 06, 2009
TechniData’s C4you recent user conference built on the success of the previous three years’ events. In its fourth outing, the Chemicals Compliance Customer Conference reinforced its role as the leading European forum for EHS management in the process industry. On September 23 and 24, executives, EHS managers and product stewards from all over Europe took up TechniData’s invitation to come to Frankfurt am Main to discuss topical issues relating to chemical safety.
Customer presentations by BASF, BYK-Chemie, Dow Corning, Ferro, Givaudan, Henkel, Honeywell, Omya, Sigma-Aldrich, Solvay and Wacker Chemie raised points for subsequent discussion. The European REACH chemicals legislation dominated many items on the agenda. These included communicating uses and exposure scenarios, the organization of the registration process and the work of the Substance Information Exchange Forums (SIEFs). In addition, Jörg Spanke from BASF explained how his company will prepare and distribute extended safety data sheets (eSDSs) in future.

Other parts of the conference focused on new developments relating to label and hazardous goods management and to GHS – the Globally Harmonized System for classifying and labeling chemicals. With regard to GHS, those attending the conference were particularly interested in how European and Asia-Pacific countries are implementing the UN model guideline and what this means for companies in practice. For example, Dr. Stephan Marfurt from Sigma-Aldrich demonstrated how his company classifies substances and preparations to produce GHS-compliant labels and safety data sheets for these regions. The subsequent panel discussion on practical aspects of label printing, for which Dr. Marfurt was joined by Lisbeth Svensson from AkzoNobel and Michael Veit from TechniData, proved especially popular.
