Good Start for European Chemicals Regulation
The chemicals regulation REACH, one of the most ambitious environmental projects in the history of the EU, started successfully. In the first month almost 16,000 substances were already pre-registered with the European Chemicals Agency in Helsinki.

SAP and TechniData Software Helps Chemicals Industry Leader BASF Stay Ahead on Compliance.
When the European Union initiated its Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) regulations, BASF SE understood early on that the implications would be significant. "Tracking and reporting substance movements in the detail required represented a huge and complex challenge," remarks Dr Andreas Gypser, manager of EH&S systems at BASF. REACH-IT Registration Portal Live
The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has published information specifying how to sign up company in REACH-IT and how to submit pre-registrations of single substance via the REACH-IT portal to the Agency as of 1 June. Practical guidance is available in the updated REACH-IT section of the ECHA website.

EPA Launches Environmental Indicators Gateway
EPA today launched the Environmental Indicators Gateway Web site to provide enhanced public access to environmental and health information generated by EPA. Information is presented in the context of "environmental indicators," numerical values that provide insights into the status and trends of environmental and public health conditions over time.

PwC-Survey on REACH: Lack of Awareness
Despite a November 30 deadline for taking steps to comply, PricewaterhouseCoopers’ survey shows awareness of REACH is low, especially outside Europe and the chemicals industry. Failure to meet the terms of this European regulation could lead to a ban on exports to the EU and is a growing concern to EU-based companies.
